Why generic drugs?

Getting well safely

Generics are indispensable. Approx. 77 out of 100 patients treated with drugs receive a generic drug.
Generics are used frequently in the therapy of widespread diseases such as hypertension, heart failure, diabetes and skin diseases. The supply of antibiotics is almost entirely guaranteed by generic companies. In 2015, generics accounted for 440 million of the 500 million daily doses. Generic drugs and biosimilars are also the means of choice for severe diseases such as cancer, rheumatism and autoimmune diseases.

If the patent protection of the original medicines expires, generic medicines can be made available. The content, effect and quality of the drugs remain the same or are even more up-to-date than those of the original manufactures. 75 percent of prescription drugs are already generic in Germany today.
